Class Descriptions

Lessons are Monday through Friday.

The children will meet at the Silver Beach Avenue entrance.

TADPOLE

Getting used to and comfortable with the water

10:00-10:30 am

 

If your child can

  • Sit in the water

Then your child should be in the TADPOLE class

 

Tadpole Skills Focus:

  • Blowing bubbles
  • Face and head underwater
  • Rolling from front to back (with help)
  • Rolling from back to front (with help)
  • Kicking while holding onto someone or something
  • Scooping
  • Kicking on back (with help)

GUPPY

Learning the fundamentals

10:30-11:00am

 

If your child can

  • Blow bubbles
  • Put face and head underwater
  • Roll from front to back (with help)
  • Roll from back to front (with help)
  • Kick while holding onto someone or something
  • Scoop
  • Kick on back (with help)

Then your child should be in the GUPPY class

 

Guppy Skills Focus:

  • Fully submerging for five seconds
  • Rotary breathing (with assistance)
  • Front glide/streamline (five feet)
  • Floating on stomach and back
  • Back glide (five feet)
  • Floating on stomach and back (10 seconds)
  • Treading water (10 seconds)
  • Swimming on stomach (with or without a noodle)
  • Swimming on back (with or without a noodle)

MINNOW

Stroke development

11:00-11:30 am

 

If your child can

  • Fully submerge for five seconds
  • Front glide/streamline
  • Float on stomach and back
  • Back glide
  • Swim on stomach (with or without a noodle)
  • Swim on back (with or without a noodle)

Then your child should be in the MINNOW class

 

Minnow Skills Focus:

  • Rotary breathing (with assistance)
  • Front and back float (20 seconds)
  • Treading water (one minute)
  • Flutter kicking (while holding kickboard)
  • Front crawl
  • Breastroke kick (while holding kickboard)
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Scissor kick (while holding kickboard)

DOLPHIN

Stroke development and improvement

11:30 am – 12:00 pm

 

If your child can

  • Front and back float
  • Rotary breath
  • Tread water (one minute)
  • Flutter kick (while holding kickboard)
  • Front crawl
  • Breaststroke kick (while holding kickboard)
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Scissor kick (while holding kickboard)

Then your child should be in the DOLPHIN class

 

Dolphin Skills Focus:

  • Surface dive
  • Swimming underwater
  • Front and back float
  • Treading water
  • Front crawl
  • Breaststroke
  • Back crawl
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Sidestroke

SHARK

Stroke refinement and independent swimming

12:00 – 12:30 pm

 

If your child can

  • Surface dive
  • Swim completely underwater
  • Tread water independently
  • Front crawl
  • Breaststroke
  • Back crawl
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Sidestroke

Then your child should be in the SHARK class

 

Shark Skills Focus:

  • Various types of dives
  • Treading water (more than one minute)
  • Perfecting all strokes
  • Retrieving objects from the ocean floor
  • Swimming efficiently and safely
